General Conference on Temple Square

I am finally at Temple Square and it has been completely amazing! The first day her I felt like  there was so much to learn, and that it would take me forever, but I am learning fast and I am enjoying being here more and more everyday! My companion, Sister O, is amazing! She is the third companion I have had from California since I left on my mission, apparently I match up well with Californians, haha :)
People in Salt Lake are so kind, granted there are a lot of weirdos but the kindness out numbers the people who are weird. Some people really are fantastic here, there is one man who is homeless, and he sits beside the cross walk going toward t he mall. every time he sees a sister missionary he always tries to brighten our day with a cheerful conversation even though he is having a rough time. There also is another elderly man that rides an old person scooter around temple Square. he has a disability that makes him difficult to understand (because he talks very slowly) but he has become friends with every missionary on the Square and everyone else who enters the gates. He told me that he has been coming to temple Square for fifteen years now and he seems to love it very much. He is very cute. Every time that he sees a sister he points at us with a smile on his face and says, "Hhheeey yyooou," as a greeting :). Also, his favorite saying is, "you know what they say...." and he always has a really funny saying. When he sees me he always says, "long live the queen!" because we have the queen on our money and we are a part of the Common Wealth system. He is amazing and a great missionary. He is here every day trying to make others have a better day and I think that is wonderful.
My P-day this transfer is on Mondays, and this is so nice after General Conference! General Conference was really cool. I saw 10 people from home and another 15 or so who knew someone that I knew! It just goes to show how small the world really is (especially during General Conference time when you are on Temple Square). Aunt Marnie, Uncle Doug, Taylor, Carson, Chrissy and the kids all came and surprised me today! It was so great to see them all (and to finally meet Carson and the two youngest). The kids are all getting so big! I am so happy that I got to spend a little time with family :).
Sister O has introduced me to many of the people that she has helped to teach, but there are some that come around very often. T is a member who was baptized last year. He loves the unity in the church and knows that God exists, but he was really struggling to find a testimony. Ever since I have gotten to Temple Square he has come looking for Sister O and me nearly every day. We teach him and help him to come closer to Christ. He is an amazing guy and even though he felt he is struggling, it has been really amazing to see his faith grow. today we had to say goodbye to T because he is flying back to his home. However, he said he would come again for next general Conference. Then there is E. He is so strong in the church. Apparently when Sister O first met him he had been less active for a very long time but now he is the one who does missionary work at home all of the time and he gives us names for people he has talked to who want to meet with us. It is truly amazing! I know that member missionary work is one of the most powerful forms of missionary work. I have been coming to an understanding of how important it really is and I hope that when I get back from my mission I will help the missionaries in my area because it is really needed.
I was not able to watch all of General Conference because I am always on the Square, but I was allowed to go to the Saturday afternoon session. the Spirit in the building is so strong, I love it, but I really had to struggle to stay awake because as soon as I sat down, drowsiness hit me in a wave. I am happy that I was able to go the session that the new apostles were announced :). It was funny when Elder Renlund was called because as soon as I got out of the Conference session my mission president and his wife came to me and wanted to know Dad's name, Grandpa's and Grandpa Rae's names so that they could try to figure out if I was related to Elder Renlund's wife. [Sister Renlund and Rae, Sister Lybbert's dad, are second cousins.]
On Temple Square the sisters sing a song and then those that know other languages announce that we are missionaries in every language. It's great to be a part of this group. I have so many friends from different countries now! One of them finished her mission and went back home to Russia today :( She was very sad to go. She was Sister O's trainer.
Sister O and me
Yesterday, Jon Schmidt [from the Piano Guys] and his whole family came and performed for us as a treat for working through General Conference. The music was beautiful as ever and very emotional near the end. I shook his hand as well! That was cool! I also saw Elder Christopherson strolling across the Square. At first I didn not even notice it was him because I am so used to seeing him on TV.
Shaylee S is also a Temple Square missionary, we are both having so much fun here, and she really helps me to feel at home. She is so sweet! Oh, also, I have seen Derek Strate a few times now. It was great to catch up. We will probably see each other every once in a while because the missionaries in Salt Lake bringt heir investigators to Temple Square.
Thanks everyone for the emails, I really love them so much!
Love,
