Well another week has gone by! I swear that I feel like I have only been out a few days, but the first transfer is up! Crazy how work makes you lose track of time. :) This transfer has been amazing, and I am so happy that I can serve on Temple Square! Before my mission I had a strong testimony of prayer, and now I can see that testimony strengthen each day. Yesterday my companion, Sister O, and I decided to have a special companionship prayer together. there were a lot of protesters screaming at us from outside of the Temple Square gates with megaphones. I think it is so sad that they do not understand the protection that the new policy provides for their children.
We prayed that despite the protesters, we would be able to help the people really feel a difference when coming onto Temple Square. We also decided to pray for the miracle of being able to hand out two copies of the Book of Mormon that day. It was not even twenty minutes after the prayer when Sister C and Sister K, Sister O and I ended up talking to two lovely middle aged women about the Book of Mormon. These woman were very impressed about the family values that we have in the church. One of them was struggling with her son leaving her religion, and she asked what it was that made our youth different. We were able to explain to her the importance of the Gospel Standards in our lives, and Sister C told her about the Iron Rod and the significance of it. the women were both so touched that they began to cry and they both accepted a copy of the Book of Mormon.
Many times I see the strong testimonies and the boldness of the sister missionaries that are training us and I really want to be able to become that type of a missionary. I know that the Spirit plays a vital role when trying to teach the Gospel. If we don not feel the Spirit, chances are an investigator will not be able to either. this is especially true when mobs of protesters are yelling out side of the building, and I do not think that I have ever been able to visualize Lehi's dream [with the people mocking from the great and spacious building] so well as I could yesterday when the throng of people were yelling outside of the gates.
I know that the Church is true, and when things like the handbook update happen, it strengthens my testimony that this is the last dispensation, and I really want to be able to share the gospel with those around me that do not have it. I want to do this so that they can feel the peace and love that comes from the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
Prayer is so important for each one of us, and I have noticed that whenever my companion and I sincerely pray for a miracle to happen that day, it does! Today we had another miracle! Sister O had been teaching CF since her first transfer, and we both had really been trying to get a hold of him to teach him for a long while. I mentioned in an earlier email that C and his family are now baptized. This was such a blessing to find out after trying to contact him and almost losing hope. Well today while we were talking to C on the phone, he asked if we knew a Sister C who is serving on Temple Square. We told him that of course we did, and then he informed us that it was her dad who had baptized and confirmed him! When we told her that her dad had baptized our investigator she was so excited and said that her dad had written to her about him and he sent a picture to her.
Our other investigators are all going steady, but it is hard because they have not been really progressing much this week. On the bright side, M (who is an investigator that came to Temple Square and we keep in contact with) finally agreed to meet with the local missionaries...in February. It has been a slow process with him, and it clearly will continue to be, but that is alright, because before, he was completely closed to the idea, and reading the Book of Mormon with him has made him begin to get the desire to be taught other than just on the phone.
T has been struggling because her power is now shut off, and so she is struggling to keep in contact with us. I am praying for her all of the time. I really hope that she will not push God away because of this trial. I know that Heavenly Father is so aware of her situation because we have had a few miracles happen while we were on the phone with her.
All of the investigators that we constantly teach we teach on the phone, even if they live in Salt Lake. We do not go to houses, but sometimes they will come to Temple Square. The Holy Ghost is so important when teaching over technology because we need to really tune into the Spirit so that we know what we need to tell them. It is so different being able to teach people the Gospel on the Square vs keeping in contact with them over the phone, I prefer teaching them face to face because for me, at least, it seems easier.
Anyway, so a wee bit of activity, and many miracles have occurred in the last few days. My p-day next week will be on Tuesday because it is a new transfer. There are 32 sisters going out bound this transfer and 3 leaving because they are finished their missions. I am going to miss them all, but we are also getting a lot of sisters coming back from out bound, and there will be new ones coming to the Square as well! This transfer, I get to work in the Beehive House! Oh, and I am moving to the apartments in WT which are infinitely better than GP (or so I have heard). The other sisters describe GP as the Outer Darkness of the apartment buildings... Well, I'm just hoping that this new apartment will not have cockroaches like GP :)
Anyway, I love you all and thank you so much for your letters!
I'm sorry if I am slow at writing back, snail mail or emails. I am only allowed to write either on p-days [she only gets one hour online for reading and sending emails].
I love you all so much XOXOX
